The content-source option was added by tumblr so that you can link sources from outside of tumblr. External websites. Putting your own blogs url as the content source is unnecessary. Tumblr automatically adds the source link to the bottom of posts after 3rd level rebogs (reblogs of reblogs), and it does it in a way in which people can click that link and be taken to that specific post on your page.. in case they want to see any caption you wrote, or reblog it directly from you.
When you source yourself, the source link just takes people to your main page, which is frustrating if they are trying to find that specific post. Sourcing yourself doesn’t make your posts any better claim more ownership over them. You can still put a click-through link if you’d like without using the content source, but keep in mind that when you use click-through links, it’s harder for people to click to see the fullsize version of that photo (if there is one) so click-throughs are best for small images and gifs.
