You say you like both, yet you kind of back-handedly compliment Gaga by saying “Oh, most of her fans are crazy.” And while I know you prefer Britney, and of course you’re going to take up for her, you can’t sit there and say Britney fans aren’t as crazy as Gaga fans. True, I’m sure Gaga fans are more defensive because Gaga has such an immense, personal bond with her fans that some of them literally feel like they’re related to her, but Britney fans also get defensive over her. Both of them have insane fans and sane fans. Not one has more than the other (not literally, of course). Like, for example, there was post about a Gaga fan dying of cancer on ONTD. It talked about how Gaga met with her personally, and there were Britney fans in there insulting Gaga, saying she only did it for publicity. Like, the post was about the poor woman dying from Luekemia (sic?). And the same for Gaga fans. I’ve seen several of them make fun of Britney in her “trainwreck” days. We’re all “insane” when it comes to a certain point. That’s not what you did. You’ve said the same thing before. Oh, Britney’s fans are perfect angels, but Gaga’s are crazy. No.

I never said Britneys fans are angels. In fact I said some of them give the rest a bad name.
What I said is true, and still stands. Oh and ONTD is never a normal standard by any means for comparison, lol. They all be crazy there.

And no its not a backhanded compliment to Gaga. What gaga is doing is fine. I only commented on her crazy fans (not all her fans)
and in fact I think it is the calmer gaga fans that are the ones embracing her close bond with them. The irrational ones are the ones that dont have quite a grip on things.

I like Gaga a lot and I wish those ones would stop. They think they are doing her right but really they are hurting her in a way. I cant tell you how many people I have talked to that said the reason they like Gaga less is because of all the crazy fans. (which i know is not right, and I am not one of those people.. i dont punish artists for their fans) – yes a couple people have said “I really liked Gaga more before tumblr”. I have seen this sentiment has spilled over onto Facebook as well.

You have said before that you enjoy the amusement of poking and pushing buttons to see the reactions out of fans and I’ll agree that its funny but it not remedying anything – It kind of adds to it.

Anyway I love you (No really you know you’re one of those closest to me on here) and I didn’t want to ever debate about Gaga with you – and really we still aren’t. I am only talking about her fans.
And while you are right that there is the fair share of crazed Brit fans (trust me, I have been on exhale forums) – you are wrong in thinking the number of them or degree is anything close to Gagas.

I think it also partially has to do with the type of people. Britney’s fans have always been just the general population of girls, gay boys, club goers, and straight guys with a guilty pleasure for pop music and/or just think she’s pretty. She has been around for 12 years now so a good portion of her fans are older now. Even some fans that may have been “crazed” have mellowed out by now.

Gaga, although her fans are also the types listed above, has always identified with “outsiders” and cast-offs.. Her fan base has grown to include a large population of those type of kids, and those kids, IN GENERAL, regardless of Gaga, are more defensive, and sensitive.. and even resentful of everything, including society and everything that challenges, threatens, or even glances the wrong way at any thing, notion, or person they hold dear. And bless their hearts for being so devout and passionate. In a perfect world that would be just fine, but in this world, it is somewhat off putting, and unfortunately, leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths.

I hate that this has turned into Britney Vs Gaga because I hate that more than anything. In this convo Britney can be replaced with a number of celebs (Christina, Mariah, Madonna) and it will still stand, back to my main point: Gaga is a phenomenal artist. But compared to any other fanbase (save for maybe Twilight and Bieber), Gaga’s fans have always been known as the most overly defensive, to a degree that has become problematic. You can rationalize or justify it any way you want.

Anyway, Gaga is fairly new, and her fans are young. I think they will mellow out eventually and embrace that their idol’s talent and work speaks for itself, and they needn’t pounce on every single thing that breathes the wrong way at them.

What do you think?
